Changing a users Blackberry in BES

OK so I can’t count the number of forms I went to where someone would ask this question, only to get exceedingly unhelpful advice or abuse or any number of misleading information. So here’d my cut down version in the hopes I won’t need to look at any of those forums again should this issue crop up again.

There are three ways to do this;

  1. Have the user get the new phone, plug it into their machine and sync. It should ask if you want to switch. Click YES. All done. [Medium sync time]
  2. Get new phone and plug into the BES server using a USB cable that you use to sync normally (or charge). Right click on the user, choose Assign device. Choose that phone (should only see one device). All done. [Minimum sync time] *** I can confirm this worked like a charm ***
  3. Assign the new handset in devices on the BES server – you will need IMEI and PIN for that and then follow step 2 above. I didn’t do this method so can’t verify that it’s that easy or even works but from what I hear in those afore mentioned forums, it does. All done? [Maximum sync time]

  1. mat bover Says:

    We normally delete the bes user account and recreate it.
    But i guess it depends how much config you have on the users after creation ours are just setup and go.
