Print spooler /service keeps stopping?

August 15, 2014

Probably due to some funky files sticking around when they have out lasted their welcome…

  • Stop the service (if it’s not already)
  • Start > Run > %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers
  • Delete all the files there
  • Start the Print service
  • Problem Solved

Factory Reset for HP LaserJet M401

May 26, 2014

Man, this was a pain. I searched all over the Internet for a solution and almost all of the options were irrelevant. Such as, oh you want to reset the printer? Just go into the system menu and choose reset to factory settings. This woul dbe helpful if I wasn’t locked out of the printer due to someone putting a password on the printer! (Who does that anyway?)

So here’s the fix before I continue my rant….

  • Power off the printer.
  • Hold the RIGHT ARROW button + the CANCEL X button.
  • Power on the printer.
  • Hold those buttons down until you see see the resetting system and then release.
  • That’s it.

How to get rid of the + symbol when printing in Adobe

January 24, 2012

Sometimes when printing a form from Adobe that has drop down options and you get a little “+” symbol to show that there are options, unfortunately those “+” symbols show up in the print! Not cool Adobe, not cool…

Go to Edit > Preferences > Forms > Uncheck the “Show text field overflow indicator”.

That’ll do…

Missing Characters when printing from Office apps

January 24, 2012

OK, considering I can’t sleep right now, I figured I’d post this and make my insomnia useful…

Strange issue occurred where printing from Outlook, Excel or Word would result in characters missing from the print out. In the print preview it looks just fine but printing would result in random characters disappearing.

The fix is here;

You chose to install the Arabic, Armenian, Georgian, Hebrew, Indic, Thai and Vietnamese language files. This will require 10 MB or more of available disk space. The files will be installed after you click OK or Apply on the Regional and Language Options dialog box.
6. Click OK to close the Regional and Language Options dialog box.

Windows 7 Print Spooler service keeps stopping

April 29, 2011

Had a client using Windows 7 (64bit) and every now and then she just couldn’t print.

I checked it out and found that the print spooler would simply stop (or restart if I had set the service to do that in the even of failure). I couldn’t get permissions on existing printers or printer anything.

The fix? Go here – %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers and delete any files there. That worked for me on two three occasions.

Why does it happen? Haven’t had to time to find out but the above seems to fix it.
