I had to post an update because I’ve been directed to logmein.com – wonderful. There’s a free option, and it works for Mac and PC and Linux (apparently). I’ve started to use it and it works perfectly. The only issue is that you need to install it on all the machine that you want to connect to. There’s no ad-hoc unless you pay for the full version (I think).
Still, I’ve used it a lot recently and I can tell you it’s WAY faster than VNC and even Terminal services. I’m a happy camper.

Ah ha. So I’ve been using various methods to remote into peoples computer with Windows for many years now and I finally settled on a nice application called EchoVNC. ( http://www.echovnc.com – redirects to sourceforge)
It’s awesome cos it punches out of the Firewall/router, connects to our server and I connect the other end, so there’s no messy connection issues. Plus is based on VNC so it’s a pretty stable system. This is great but as of now they don’t have a Mac version. Booo.
So after a few frustrating moments I did some quick searches and found perhaps the easiest way of remotely connecting to Mac. As most Mac things go it looks easy, simple and intuitive. Awesome.
So the things you’ll need before you start are, two Mac’s and preferably two IM accounts such as Google chat (http://www.google.com/talk/) or AIM (www.AIM.com).
When you’re ready;
- load up iChat
- add the IM account to iChat
- add the other person you want to hook up with
- Highlight the other person
- Click the Start Screen Sharing button (bottom right – icon looks like two boxes overlapping)
That’s it.
I’ll update if I run into any issues…
